If you’re expecting guests over the holidays, you’re probably planning on giving your house a good, old-fashioned scrubbing ahead of time. And if you’re like many of our clients, you’re wondering how to make those hardwood floors of yours really shine again. You’ve come to the right place.

Time and traffic do a number on hardwood flooring. Regular maintenance helps to keep your floors looking their best, but eventually, stubborn built-up dirt and grease and countless microscopic scratches take their toll and dull the shine. No matter how well or how often you clean them, they still just look old and tired. At this point, you’re going to need your floors refinished in order to restore their sheen, right?

Here’s something you may not know, and it’s one of our best-kept secrets, although we certainly aren’t shy about letting homeowners know their options: A simple Floor Doctor Deep Clean can dramatically improve the appearance of even the dirtiest, most lackluster hardwood floors and help protect them against daily wear and tear. Best of all, a Lifetime Hardwood Floors Deep Clean takes just a few hours, and it doesn’t require emptying the furniture out of the room.

Four Steps to Holiday-Worthy Floors

Lifetime Hardwood Floors has the expertise and the state-of-the-art equipment to transform your floors in less than a day. Here’s how we do it:

1. Remove dirt, grease, and surface contaminants.

One of our favorite tools, our Dirt Dragon orbital cleaner is a powerful machine that’s made just for cleaning hardwood floors. Its custom-designed, cylindrical brush loosens the toughest dirt, grease, and other contaminants on the floor without damaging the finish, while the powerful water containment vacuum system removes the debris, leaving the floor’s surface clean and dry with each pass.

2. Lift every speck of dust and debris.

Once the stubborn dirt and grease are removed from the surface of the floor, we vacuum the whole thing with our mighty HEPA-filter dust containment system, which removes every iota of dust and debris, including what has built up in the cracks. Our truck-mounted containment system ensures the air in your home doesn’t become contaminated with dust.

3. Give it a final cleaning.

To really bring out the shine in your wood floors and remove any lingering residues, we give it a good once-over with our GREENGUARD-certified Ultra Citra Kleen floor cleaner, hand-abrading or spot-cleaning trouble spots as necessary. If any cracks need to be filled, we do that, too.

4. Coat it.

We finish our Deep Clean with a water-based top coat that restores a high shine to your floors. The top coat is low-VOC, environmentally friendly, and fast-drying and is formulated to rejuvenate and protect your hardwood floors. After a Deep Clean, your floors will look fabulous for several months with minimal maintenance.

When a Deep Clean Won’t Quite Cut It: The Buff & Coat

If your floors need a little more TLC than a Deep Clean can offer, opt for a Buff & Coat , also known as a re-coat. A re-coat involves a deep cleaning followed by lightly abrading the old finish and removing light scratches. Then, we apply a low-VOC topcoat that’s low-VOC and environmentally friendly, two-part top coat that’ll keep your floors looking fabulous for at least five years with minimal maintenance. A Buff & Coat takes just one day, making it another great option for sprucing up your hardwood floors before your guests arrive.
